Application of thickener in chemical coatings

In reality, bentonite actually has many applications, which can be said to be in coatings

 

(1) bentonite has good suspension and dispersion in water medium. The production process of bentonite makes the coating difficult to precipitate, layered and uniform in color, thus improving the stability of the coating suspension and having good brush coating performance. It can form a uniform and smooth coating. Polar substances in gelled asphalt particles adsorb bentonite particles, form colloidal hydration membrane on the surface of asphalt particles, reduce the interfacial tension between asphalt and water, prevent asphalt particles from re setting, form stable dispersion phase, and play the role of emulsifier Based on this, it is possible to add some heavy calcium carbonate instead of light calcium carbonate to the coating, thus reducing the cost.

 

(2) bentonite forms floccules in water and has thickening effect. The molecular group can be combined with the organic substrate in the coating, improve the water resistance of the coating, and enhance the strength and adhesion of the coating.

 

(3) bentonite has certain cohesion and covering power, and its price is low. When added to polyvinyl alcohol series coatings, the amount of polyvinyl alcohol and its fillers (such as light calcium carbonate) can be greatly reduced, and the product cost can be reduced.

 

(4) bentonite has good hydrophilicity, plasticity, expansibility and cohesiveness, and can combine with appropriate amount of water to form colloid. Bentonite crusher can release charged ions in water. This kind of ion repulsion plays the role of dispersant in coatings. In the waterproof coating, the impact and cutting of high-speed bentonite particles and hot asphalt will make the asphalt broken and gelled. Bentonite has cold resistance, and the coating can be used at low temperature in winter.
